What is a same-day crown?
A same-day crown is a full ceramic crown that is designed and made in the dental office during your appointment, so you leave with your final crown instead of a temporary.
At Integrity Dental Boston we use the CEREC system. A 3D intraoral scan replaces impression trays, your crown is designed on screen, milled from a solid ceramic block in our office and bonded in place before you go back to work.
A traditional crown is sent to an outside lab. That usually means a second visit two or three weeks later, and a temporary crown in between that can loosen or chip.

Some cases — several crowns at once, or complex bite work — are better done in more than one visit. If that's you, we'll say so at the exam and plan the visits around your schedule.

What a same-day crown costs.
We don't publish one price for crowns, because your cost depends on the tooth and on your insurance plan. Many PPO plans cover part of the cost of a crown — same-day or lab-made.

Is a same-day crown as strong as a lab-made crown?
CEREC crowns are milled from solid ceramic blocks made for crowns, and for most teeth they are a durable, natural-looking choice. Your dentist will recommend the material that fits your tooth and your bite.
How long does the appointment take?
Plan on one longer appointment instead of several short ones. We give you an exact time window when you book, so you can plan around meetings.
Does insurance cover a same-day crown?
Many PPO plans cover part of the cost of a crown, the same way they cover a lab-made one. We check your benefits and explain your out-of-pocket cost before we start.
Will it hurt?
We numb the tooth with local anesthesia, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Some sensitivity for a few days afterward is normal.
How long does a crown last?
With good home care and regular checkups, crowns commonly last 10 to 20 years or more.
Can I come in on a Saturday?
Yes — we're open Saturdays 8 am to 5 pm. Call us to check availability for crown appointments.
